Tour Overview
This three-day, two-night journey explores Oyama, conveniently located between Tokyo and Hakone, before continuing to Hakone, one of Japan’s most renowned hot spring destinations.
Oyama has long been a sacred mountain and pilgrimage destination. During the Edo period, large numbers of people made the journey known as Oyama-mairi, a pilgrimage so popular that scenes of it were depicted in ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Traces of this centuries-old pilgrimage culture can still be found throughout the area today. From Oyama Afuri Shrine Shimosha, visitors can take in sweeping views extending to Sagami Bay—a panorama awarded two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan.
The journey then continues to Hakone, where volcanic landscapes, Lake Ashi, and hot springs showcase another side of the region. By combining Oyama—a lesser-known pilgrimage destination within easy reach of Tokyo—with internationally renowned Hakone, this itinerary offers travelers the opportunity to experience Japan’s history, spiritual traditions, and natural beauty in a single journey.
