Unwind in Hakone at the Designer Ryokan “Tsuki no Yado Sara”

Opened in 2015, “Tsuki no Yado Sara” is a stylish onsen ryokan in Hakone-Yumoto, full of cozy charms such as moon- and yosegi-zaiku-inspired design motifs and a rooftop garden. All guest rooms are equipped with a private open-air bath, allowing you to enjoy the onsen while listening to the babbling of the river and the sounds of nature. Here, we will introduce its charms, as well as great value plans that include accommodation with the Romancecar.

The Charms of "Tsuki no Yado Sara"

Combining high design sense with comfort, "Tsuki no Yado Sara" is a Kyoritsu Resort ryokan in Hakone-Yumoto. Access from the nearest Hakone-Yumoto Station is excellent, and the moon-themed entrance and Japanese-modern atmosphere of the interior are full of travel charm. Here are the charms of "Tsuki no Yado Sara."

Great Access from Hakone-Yumoto Station

Hakone-Yumoto Station is the gateway to Hakone, served by the Odakyu Romancecar and the Hakone Tozan Railway. "Tsuki no Yado Sara" is located a 9-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station. Additionally, a paid shuttle bus also operates from the front of the station.

An Entrance Hosted by the Moon

Upon stepping into the inn, the first thing that catches your eye is a large full moon object. A characteristic feature is the light that looks like a full moon from the front and a crescent moon from the side. The front desk features a yosegi-zaiku marquetry design that spreads from the wall to the ceiling.
Next to the front desk, there is a free drink corner where you can enjoy freshly ground coffee and a dango (dumpling) service to satisfy a small hunger upon check-in. The lobby also offers paid rental of colorful yukatas, so be sure to check it out.

An Interior with a Sophisticated Atmosphere and Comfort

As the name "Tsuki no Yado" (Inn of the Moon) suggests, motifs of the moon and yosegi-zaiku are found throughout the inn. Yosegi-zaiku is a craft made by fitting together various types of wood, and Hakone is a famous production area for it. Please explore the inn, enjoy the elaborate furnishings and decorations, and fully feel the atmosphere of Hakone.

Fantastical Rooftop Garden

After relaxing in the onsen, be sure to visit the rooftop garden on the top floor. You can enjoy the seasonal scenery of Hakone in a magical atmosphere softly lit by gentle lights.

Renovated on June 3, 2024, the garden is illuminated every evening from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Pick up your favorite drink at the free drink corner “Tsuki no Shizuku” on the 3rd floor, then head up to the rooftop garden and unwind in its soothing glow.

Easily accessible from the city center, Hakone-Yumoto’s “Tsuki no Yado Sara” awaits you with our prized cuisine, delicious sake, healing onsen, and heartfelt hospitality. We hope your time here becomes a memorable and cherished part of your journey.
